This weekend, a group of 7th grade boys from Plainwell Middle School visited the Special Olympics Inclusion Center in Grand Rapids where they played basketball with the Youth Fireflies. It was an outstanding experience with strong relationships and memories made by all that were involved. We are so proud of these Trojans for being amazing leaders - THANK YOU to Landon, Lucas, Jayden, Brady, Jared, Brody, Tracey, Liam and Judd - PLAINWELL PRIDE!
What a fun day at the 2024 Battle of the Books competition on Saturday at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center. There were 26 teams that competed in the morning from Hopkins, Martin, Otsego and Plainwell Elementary Schools to earn a spot in the Grand Battle. In the afternoon eight teams competed in the Grand Battle and the Bookshelf Bandits from Cooper Elementary came home with the trophy. It was a great day of competition and we are so proud of all the participants for their hard work and outstanding teamwork throughout the Battle! Congratulations to the winning team - way to go, Bookshelf Bandits!Â
Next up, STATE FINALS! Congratulations to the PHS Cheer team who competed in Regionals at Kenowa Hills HS this morning. The team earned third place and advanced to the STATE FINALS next week at Central Michigan University. TROJAN PRIDE! đź’™
In honor of Black History Month, the Multicultural Club invited a special guest, Colonel James F. Grady II, the Director of Michigan State Police and a Liaison to the Governor's Office to Plainwell High School. Colonel Grady is the third African American Director to lead the Michigan State Police. He engaged the students in an insightful and informative discussion, offering a unique opportunity for them to gain valuable perspective and knowledge from a distingushed law enforcement leader. It was a great learning experience for the PHS students!

In addition, the Geckos celebrated a special milestone for their 5th graders who completed their 1,000th day of elementary school! Congratulations!

It’s National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! We couldn’t let the day pass without recognizing our amazing bus drivers. The students and staff at Cooper Elementary had lots of fun celebrating their 100th day of school today. They had a special dress up day and enjoyed lots of 100th day activities.

The 2024 Battle of the Books competition is coming soon! Teams of 3rd-5th graders from Hopkins, Martin, Otsego and Plainwell Elementary Schools are set for Battle Day on Saturday, February 24. Teams have worked hard to read and study six different books and are now ready for the book battle at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center. Battles will be held at 8:00 am, 9:15 am, 10:30 am and 11:45 am and the top two teams from each battle advance to the Grand Battle at 1:30 pm.

On May 7, 2024, PCS will be pursuing a new bond proposal to continue to improve our facilities and offer the best educational experience possible for our students, families and staff. This bond will support 42 million in new projects and allow the completion of current projects that have seen significant cost increases due to inflation. NO TAX RATE INCREASE - if approved by voters, there is to be no tax rate increase expected over the current tax rate.
The bond will focus on five key areas:
- Safety & Security
- New Early Childhood Center
- Gym Additions
- Replacement Tennis Courts
- Completing Current Projects

Recently, we recognized our Senior Basketball Players at their home game against Otsego. In between the Varsity Basketball games, we celebrated Mackenzie Topp, Brooklyn Timpe, Shawn Nelson and Kyan Betts for Senior Night. TROJAN PRIDE!

Four middle school teams from the Plainwell Robotics Club (The Wrecking Crew, Trial and Error, HOW 'BOUT NO and Engineering Unicorns) ended their 2023-24 competition season at the VEX State Championship Tournament held at the Grandville Competition Center on Saturday, February 17. The four teams were among the 48 teams invited to participate in the event — a significant achievement for these eleven students, seven of whom competed in VEX robotics for the first time this season.
Four PHS Boys Wrestlers are headed to STATE! Congratulations to the following wrestlers for their strong finish at Regionals and qualifying for the MHSAA Individual State Finals at Ford Field on March 1 and 2:
