
Reading month is here! To help kick-off the month, Gilkey Elementary held a special assembly where they launched their One School, One Book initiative - “Camp Gilkey”! 🏕️ This year, every student at Gilkey received a copy of Summer According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney and will take part in a variety of camp-themed reading activities.
It is sure to be a great month for the Gilkey Geckos as they will be engaging in memorable reading experiences all throughout March!Â


Round 1 = ✔️! Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team on their 45-27 win over Allegan tonight in the first round of Districts. Alyssa Weldon led the team with 13 points and Anna Overway had 11!
Next up, they will play Paw Paw on Wednesday (3/5) in South Haven. The game begins at 5:30 PM.

The Middle School Girls Basketball teams will be wrapping up their season tonight at HOME! The 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams will be taking on Otsego at home in the Field House beginning at 4:00 PM. Come out to support the Middle School Trojans!
Last week, the teams played Niles where the 8th grade team earned an impressive 36-33 win over a tough opponent, holding their ground until the very end. Their resilience and focus led them to a well-deserved victory. The 7th grade team fought hard and played with determination, they ultimately fell short with a 37-51 loss. Their effort, however, highlighted their skill and teamwork throughout the game. The 6th grade team gave it their all, playing with heart and skill throughout the game. Although they lost 14-24, their effort and teamwork were truly impressive.
Good luck to all three teams against Otsego tonight - GO TROJANS!


BATTLE OF THE BOOKS CHAMPS! Congratulations to the 2025 Battle of the Books 📚 Champions - Urban Legends from Gilkey Elementary! It was a great day of competition on Saturday and we are so proud of all of the participants from Hopkins, Martin, Otsego and Plainwell for their hard work and outstanding teamwork throughout the competition. Congratulations to the winning team - way to go, Geckos!


What an incredible weekend for PHS Wrestling as TEN Trojan wrestlers competed in the State Finals at Ford Field. This historic event was marked by record achievements, including the highest number of individual qualifiers, most semifinal appearances, most medals earned, three sets of siblings competing…AND A 3-TIME STATE CHAMP!
Let’s take a moment to congratulate PHS Wrestling on another OUTSTANDING season, including these incredible state finishes from the Trojans:
🏆 STATE CHAMP - FIRST PLACE FINISH! Madison Nieuwenhuis took first place and is a 3-TIME STATE CHAMP!

🏆 Adin Young finished in 4th place with over 150 career wins
🏆 Austin Gyorkos finished in 5th place with over 100 career wins and still counting

🏆 Conference CHAMP, 🏆 District CHAMP, 🏆 Regional CHAMP and 🏆 5th in the STATE! The PHS Competitive Cheer team had a fantastic competition today at the State Finals at CMU. Their season ended with a 5th place finish in Division 2. What an incredible season for Trojan Competitive Cheer - 📣 PLAINWELL PRIDE! 📣


🏆 SCC CHAMPS! 🏆 Congratulations to the Boys Swim & Dive team for clinching the SCC Team Championship today with an impressive final score of 480! It was a remarkable competition, with numerous successes in the pool from the Trojans - PLAINWELL PRIDE!!


DISTRICT CHAMPS!! Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team on their win over Parchment 51-45 tonight to win the District Championship! 🏀 GO TROJANS!! 🏀


Earlier this week, the Plainwell Middle School Choir programs showcased their talents at their Pre-Festival Concert. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade choirs, along with the Honors Choir, performed beautifully at the Performing Arts Center.

The PHS Swim & Dive team had a great send off from their family, friends and some special fans from Starr Elementary! While leaving for their SCC Conference meet, the Trojans were greeted with cheers, signs and confetti! The Swim & Dive team will be competing this weekend in Otsego - let’s go Trojans!


STATE SEND-OFF! The PHS Competitive Cheer team held their State Send Off Performance last night! The night was filled with celebration. They kicked off the night be honoring the 2000 Cheer State Champs - 25 years ago, PHS Cheer won the state championship!
Next, the stands were filled with Trojan Pride as the team performed all three rounds. Following their performances, the varsity team signed autographs for their young Trojan fans!
Next up, the team will be heading to the STATE FINALS at CMU! Join us today (2/28) at their State Finals Departure Parade at 1:15 PM at the PHS athletic entrance!

During Mid-Winter Break, members of the Student Senate from Plainwell High School participated in the MASC/MAHS State Leadership Conference held in Grand Rapids. During the conference, they had the opportunity to build leadership skills, generate new ideas and network with over 2,000 other student-leaders in Michigan. What an amazing experience for Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders!

🏀 District Championship bound! 🏀 Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team on their 54-49 win over South Haven tonight. Next, they will head to the Championship game on Friday (2/28) at 7:00 PM at Otsego against Parchment. LET’S GO TROJANS!


The Middle School Girls Basketball teams are putting in tremendous effort this season! On Monday, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams faced off against Paw Paw, where they played with great determination and teamwork. Here are some highlights from the games:
8th grade: The 8th grade team delivered a dominant performance, controlling the game from start to finish and securing a 31-23 victory. Their solid defense and fast-paced offense were key to the win, as they played with confidence and showed great teamwork.
7th grade: The 7th grade team put up an intense fight, showcasing impressive skills and teamwork, but ultimately came up just short, losing 37-32. They played with heart and determination, and their effort was commendable throughout the game.
6th grade: The 6th grade team played Paw Paw this past Monday with great determination and teamwork throughout the game. Despite their best efforts, they fell short with a final score of 8-14. Their hard work and resilience were evident, and they showed plenty of promise for future games.
