Recently the Plainwell High School Multicultural Club took a field trip to see the movie Till and experience an ethnic soul food restaurant in Kalamazoo. What a great experience for these students.  Following the field trip, PHS Senior Tyson Schoen shared, “Seeing the movie Till reminded me of the stories my grandmother told about going down to Arkansas during the 1960s. The movie definitely conveyed the right emotions to make an impact on its viewers.”

The Plainwell Robotics Club (PRC) held its 2nd annual Middle School and High School VRC Robotics Tournaments at Plainwell High School this past weekend. Seven teams from the Middle School participated in the competition on Saturday and competed against teams that traveled from Caledonia, Grandville, Grand Rapids, Jenison and Traverse City. The High School Competition on Sunday included five teams from PCS, along with other teams from DeWitt, Caledonia, Fennville, Grandville, Grand Rapids, Napoleon, Okemos and Saranac. Highlights from the weekend included: - Middle School team Trial and Error had a strong start to the robotics season. They were ranked #1 going into the elimination rounds. Unfortunately, they were knocked out of the competition during their quarterfinals match along with Plainwell teams Demoted Rookies and B.A.T.TL.E - Judges awarded Middle School team Trial and Error the Amaze Award, which is given to the team that has built the most consistently high scoring and competitive robot. Their robot showed high-quality construction and their programming is effective, successful and consistent. - High School team So Many Problems had the best showing of the High School teams by making it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. They were also awarded the Think Award, which is given to the team with the most effective and consistent programming strategies and solutions to solving the game challenge. This team’s autonomous program was consistent and reliable, and they clearly explained their programming management process. - High School teams Fluorescent Bananas, Circuit Breakers and Error Code made it to the Round of 16 before being knocked out of the competition. The PRC thanks all the volunteers that helped to make these two days memorable for all participating teams. For more information about the PRC, please visit https://www.plainwellroboticsclub.org/.
