In January, Plainwell High School started a Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT). Coaches made recommendations of athletes in their programs that displayed leadership qualities and/or potential. SALT met 2-3 times a month where they identified four core values and guiding principles for all athletes/the entire athletic department to live by - passion, commitment, growth and leadership. The goal is to have all PHS athletes represent these core values with their actions and behaviors on and off the “field”.
Next year, the program will continue to look for ways to teach, model and recognize people who demonstrate these core values. They also want to grow the SALT program by providing additional leadership training and resources to the PHS athletes so they can support their peers on the field, court, course or arena!
A very special thank you to Ms. Preston and SALT for your dedication to Trojan athletics - Plainwell Pride!
Last week, the Middle School students had a Day of Awesomeness! This was a celebration for students that had at least $50 in donations for this year’s fundraiser. Each grade level spent 70 minutes doing various activities. Special thanks to all that contributed to the fundraiser and to the parent volunteers who helped supervise each of the stations. Way to go, PMS Trojans!

Earlier this week, the 5th grade students at Gilkey Elementary went on an adventure where they spent time panning for gold in the Nature Lab to finish up their unit on the Gold Rush. Students traveled back in time to 1849 to travel on the Oregon Trail to pan for gold, led by Prospector Jack.
It was a great experience, as students earned and collected gold through various activities in the Nature Lab. In the end, they could use their gold to purchase from the General Store. What a great learning experience for the Geckos!
