The Rock Starrs at Starr Elementary had many special readers this week. A couple highlights include:
-In Mrs. Mudget’s Kindergarten class, Mr. Joshua Amaezechi read A is for Africa. Their class just started a unit on cultures around the world, so the students were able to learn about the country he grew up in - Nigeria! It was an awesome way to celebrate reading month and learn about different cultures from people who live in our community!
-In Mrs. Heise’s third grade class, Officer Danielle, the police captain and firefighter for Kalamazoo Public Safety, read to the students. She shared two stories, answered questions and provided students with a donut treat and firefighter hat!
What a great experience for our Rock Starrs - special thanks to Mr. Amaezechi and Officer Danielle! We appreciate all our special readers throughout the district who have supported reading month!
It’s National Athletic Trainer month and we would like to recognize with gratitude the Plainwell High School Athletic Trainer Jessica Bakhuyzen for everything she does for our athletes. Mrs. Bakhuyzen has the biggest heart and cares about all of our athletes. She goes above and beyond each day and we are so lucky to have her at PCS. From all of us at PCS, THANK YOU to Mrs. Bakhuyzen for your dedication to our student-athletes! Trojan Pride!
Students in Mrs. Martin’s fourth grade class at Cooper Elementary had a special guest reader today! Mr. Dunn from the Alamo Township Fire Department was their guest reader, he taught the class about being a firefighter and gave a tour of the fire truck! What a fun day! Special thanks to Mr. Dunn for this great experience for these fourth grade Koalas!
Congratulations to PHS Senior, Emma Balkema, on signing her letter of intent to play softball at Grace Christian University! We are incredibly proud of Emma's athletic achievements while at PHS and wish her all the best next year. From all of us at PCS, congratulations and best wishes to Emma! Trojan pride!
More reading month fun - special thanks to the 8th graders in Mrs. Macklin’s class who read to the 2nd graders in Mrs. VanGoeye’s class at Starr. It was great fun for all!
Students in Mrs. DeMoore’s Kindergarten class at Gilkey Elementary had fun during reading month by dressing up like their favorite book characters today! Way to go, Geckos!
Congratulations to band students, Jacob Skibbe, Jenna Perez, Dyllan Crapo, Danielle Klein, Samantha Colvin, Alaina Ryan, Isabelle DeLaet, Donovan Ryan, Tyson Schoen and Caiden Schoen for their outstanding performances at MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble on Saturday. Between each of their events, they earned one second division rating and five first division ratings!
A special shout-out goes to Jenna Perez for participating in three events (a solo, a duet with Samantha and a trio with Alaina and Isabelle) and earning first division ratings with all of them! The solo performance is especially impressive when you consider that Jenna had to sight read, perform a prepared solo and have several prepared scales memorized!
Way to go, Trojans - PLAINWELL PRIDE!
