STARR READERS: Students in Ms. Shooks first grade class at Starr Elementary had lots of fun throughout the month of March with guest readers. They had staff from Starr, the Middle School and the High School, as well as students, Ms. Shooks’ family, and community members visit to share their favorite books! The students loved it and it brought so much joy to their classroom.
IT’S SPRING BREAK! As a reminder, there is no school from Friday, April 1-Friday, April 8 for Spring Break. We wish our students, staff and families a wonderful break filled with relaxation and happy memories!

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUPPORTS UKRAINIAN REFUGEES: Over the last few weeks, Plainwell Middle School held a grade level contest to support Ukrainian Refugees. The goal was for each grade level to get the most pennies in their grade level jar and take points away from the other grades by adding silver coins to other grade level jars! This week, Student Council and Current Events Class students counted the money that was raised. Thank you to the Middle School students who raised over $1,800, this money will be donated to the World Central Kitchen, who is providing meals to over 2.5 million Ukrainian refugees. Way to go, Trojans!
STARR SWIMMER: Congratulations to Starr Elementary fifth grader, Sophia VanHeest, who participated in the USA Swimming Michigan State Meet last weekend. At the competition, she placed: 3rd in the 100 Back, 2nd in the 500 Free, 2nd in the 50 back, 2nd in the 200 free and earned 1st place in 100 Free! Sophia is a State Champion! Way to go, Sophia! Plainwell Pride!
MYWAY WRESTLING: Congratulations to Cooper Elementary third grade student, Lane Curry, who competed at the MYWAY (Michigan's Youth Wrestling Association) State Championship competition this past weekend and WON! Next up, Lane will go to the National competition on April 8th. Way to go, Lane and best wishes at Nationals! Plainwell pride!
MULTICULTURAL CLUB: Plainwell High School's Multicultural Club took a trip to the International Festival at Western Michigan University on Sunday (3/27) where the students enjoyed music, foods, traditional dances and fashions from many cultures from around the world. The trip provided a wonderful learning experience for these PHS students.
GIRLS BASKETBALL SKILLS CAMP: This past weekend, we wrapped up the Girls Basketball Skills Camp for 1st-8th grade girls. It was a great camp hosted by the PHS Coaching Staff and players. What a great opportunity for our young Trojans to learn all about the game of basketball.
CINDERELLA BEGINS TONIGHT: We are just a few hours away from opening night at the 2022 PHS Spring Musical “Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella". The cast and crew have done an outstanding job preparing for the show and we can’t wait to see them live on stage beginning this evening!

MORE FUN FOR READING MONTH: Mr. Montange, PCS Superintendent, joined in the reading fun while visiting Mrs. Funk’s Kindergarten class at Gilkey Elementary as guest reader today! PHS FORENSICS: The PHS Forensics team is having a great competitive season! Some highlights from the season include:
- The team had a competition on March 5 where they took home the third place trophy for Division II and one of their competitors (Abigail) broke into the final round of her event and ended up taking seventh place overall.
- One of their team members (Alysen) finished fourth place overall at the Portage Northern Menchinger Invitational on March 12. In addition, the team overall took home the 3rd place trophy in the Division II standings.
- This past weekend they competed and had a strong showing, with three of their competitors breaking into their semi-final round, but did not place overall as a team.
Congratulations to the Forensics team - keep up the great work, Trojans!

READING MONTH: One of the many ways that Mrs. Stamos and Mr. Manting celebrate during Reading Month is to read to the 5th grade students throughout PCS.  Last week they read “I Am One, A Book of Action” to the 5th graders at Starr and Gilkey Elementary Schools. As Principal and Assistant Principal at the Middle School, they enjoyed this time sharing information and answering questions. Next up, they will stop at Cooper Elementary to meet with the 5th grade Koalas!
NHS & RED CROSS CLUB: Several members from Plainwell High School’s National Honor Society and Red Cross Club participated in the Kalamazoo Walk to End Homelessness on Saturday (3.19) at Homer Stryker Field. Way to go, Trojans!
GILKEY GECKO FIELD TRIP: The fourth graders from Gilkey Elementary took a field trip to Lansing last week to visit the Capitol and Historical Museum. They got to see Youth in Government (high school students from across the state) in action in the Senate and House! Some of them even got to walk on the Senate floor and meet Senator Tom Barrett! Such a meaningful learning event for everyone!
PHS SPRING SPORTS: 2022 Spring Sports are underway! Our athletes and coaches are enjoying and appreciating the warm, dry weather!  We are looking forward to a great spring season for our athletes - GO TROJANS!

ROCK STARR FIELD TRIP: Our fifth grade Rock Starrs from Starr Elementary had an awesome field trip yesterday! They enjoyed visiting the Kalamazoo Civic Theater to watch School House Rock, Jr., then took a walk to the Institute of Art and finished the day with a trip to Revel and Roll for bowling. What a fun day for these 5th grade students!
